President Paudel, Vice-President Yadav call for environment-friendly development

KATHMANDU, June 5:  President Ram Chandra Paudel has extended his best wishes to one and all on the occasion of the World Environment Day.

In a message given on this occasion today, President Paudel spoke of the need to make development works environment-friendly. "On this day, we must commit to make the constitutionally guaranteed right to live in a clean environment meaningful by keeping our houses and surroundings clean and maintaining ecological balance."

"The overbearing ambitions of human beings are spurring ruthless exploitation of nature, hosting a number of challenges. It is leading to climate change related problems, aggravating pollution and declining biodiversity," lamented President Paudel.

The campaign for this year's World Environment Day is 'Eliminate Plastic Pollution, Use Environment-Friendly Alternatives'.

The Head of the State wished: "May this day provide us further enthusiasm to implement the agendas presented by Nepal in the international forums regarding environmental conservation and elimination of pollution."

Furthermore, he stated that Nepal has made some tangible achievements through various programmes placed in line with Nepal's commitment to mitigate climate risks and to conserve the environment.

On the occasion, the Head of the State extended his gratitude to the Ministry of Forest and Environment and other ministries, local and provincial governments, security agencies and development partners and stakeholders for shouldering the responsibilities of environment conservation.

Similarly, Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has viewed both personal and collective efforts on conservation of nature to make World Environment Day relevant and meaningful.

Giving a message of best wishes on the Day today, the Vice President said all sides' togetherness is imperative to wipe out plastic pollution. Nepal is also observing the Day under the campaign 'Beat Plastic Pollution' Yadav also reminded everyone to balance development activities and environment conservation in view of growing environmental impacts on living beings.
