President Bhandari visiting Lumbini today

KATHMANDU, Oct 31: President Bidya Devi Bhandari is scheduled to visit Lumbini today. “She is scheduled to visit Bajrayan Vihar, worship at Mayadevi and get information about the Lumbini Master Plan,” said Venerable Metteyya Sakyaputta, vice-chairman of the Lumbini Development Trust (LDT).

KATHMANDU, Oct 31: President Bidya Devi Bhandari is scheduled to visit Lumbini today. “She is scheduled to visit Bajrayan Vihar, worship at Mayadevi and get information about the Lumbini Master Plan,” said Venerable Metteyya Sakyaputta, vice-chairman of the Lumbini Development Trust (LDT).


He said, “The president is scheduled to visit Lumbini this morning. Here she will be briefed on the progress of the Lumbini Master Plan so far. She is scheduled to visit the Mayadevi Temple, inspect the Bajrayana Mahavihar and Nepal Mandal reception gate, walk from the island of peace to the Mayadevi temple and learn about the Lumbini Buddhist University.”

Similarly, Acting Prime Minister and Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand and Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Prem Bahadur Ale will also participate in the program. “On Saturday, National Assembly Speaker Ganesh Timilsana, former Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha, Bagmati Province Speaker Sanu Kumar Shrestha, former Bagmati Minister Ajay Kranti Shakya, MP Nawaraj Silwal, Surya Pathak, Kathmandu Metropolitan Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya, Deputy Chief Hari Prabha Khadki and secretaries of various ministries have arrived in Lumbini,” said member secretary of the LDT, Sanuraja Shakya.


According to Shakya, after the Lumbini program, the president is scheduled to unveil the White Jade Buddha statue at Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa today. The statue was brought from Burma at the initiative of the Lumbini Garden Foundation. At the invitation of the LDT, a delegation including Blanca Martin Delgado, speaker of the Extremadura Provincial Assembly of Spain and Minister for Culture of Spain, Nuria Flores Redondo arrived in Lumbini. Chief District Officer Shishir Ram Tiwari said that security has been tightened in Rupandehi.
