LUMBINI, Oct 31: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has arrived in Lumbini. After visiting Pokhara, he arrived at Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, today.
In Lumbini, Secretary-General Guterres received a warm welcome from Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Tourism Minister Sudan Kiranti, Lumbini Chief Minister Dilli Chaudhary, and other dignitaries.
Guterres' visit to Lumbini raises hopes for tourism promotion
Upon entering Lumbini through gate no 4, Guterres proceeded to Shanti Dip. He also visited Mayadevi Temple from Shanti Dip on foot. Subsequently, he visited Buddha Birth Memorial, Pushkarani Pond, and the Ashoka Pillar.
In addition to lighting a lamp at the Ashoka Pillar, he also participated in a tree planting ceremony.
