ITAHARI, Sept 5: Superintendent of Police (SP) Bidyananda Majhi who was suspended after he was found guilty of concealing the rape of a 16-year-old by her lover and lover’s friend in Itahari has been conferred the “Prabal Janasewa Shree” award by the president on Tuesday. The award is conferred on people who have made valuable contributions in their fields.
SP Majhi had allegedly forced the victim to reach a compromise with her rapists.

He was suspended for three months following the report submitted by a high-level police probe. He currently serves as the police chief of Doti district.
The investigation into SP Majhi’s involvement in the case started a month after the 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Itahari-2 on December 31. He was suspended on February 6 while he still was the chief of District Police of Sunsari.
The investigation was carried out after the then Additional Inspector General (AIG) Pashupati Upadhyaya formed a five-member probe committee headed by the then Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hari Bahadur Pal. SP Majhi and Inspector Chiranjivi Dahal were suspended based on the report of the probe committee.
SP Majhi’s promotion was also halted following three months of suspension after which, he was sent to Doti.
