Preserving the dhimey and basuri culture of Beni

Contemplating the eagerness of Newari youths to preserve their culture, Maiju Khala of Nepal Bhasa Manka Khala provided a month-long basuri training. Beni municipality-7 provided financial assistance for the training.

Contemplating the eagerness of Newari youths to preserve their culture, Maiju Khala of Nepal Bhasa Manka Khala provided a month-long basuri training. Beni municipality-7 provided financial assistance for the training.


Speaking at the closing event of the training, Rajendra Shrestha, ward chairperson of Beni Municipality-7 stated that the number of folk musicians was decreasing due to the trend of foreign employment among youths. He further stated that the training program was organized to handover the skills of playing the folk instrument from the older generation to the new.

During the same event, Shrestha vowed to help promote the endangered music of the region. Preservation of culture and heritages of Beni Bajar has a direct link with the influx of national and international tourist in the district. 


District chairperson of Nepal Bhasa Manka Khala, Krishna Prasad Shrestha, Dharma Munikar of Nasa Srishti Kala Kendra, and counselor of Manka Khala, Prakash Kumar Shrestha spoke about the importance of preservation of culture which is in danger of extinction.
