KATHMANDU, Aug 21: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has handed Pramod Neupane responsibility for expanding and strengthening the party organisation.
A meeting of the party’s Central Committee on Friday appointed Neupane as head of the Organisation Department.
Neupane, who entered politics after a career in journalism, had recently emerged as an active figure within the RSP. He was particularly visible when party chair Rabi Lamichhane was in jail, playing an active role in presenting the party’s position through the media and taking its political message to the public.
During the legal and political crisis surrounding Lamichhane, the RSP faced sustained public scrutiny and debate. Neupane’s involvement in media mobilisation and communication strategy during that period was considered significant.

With his experience in journalism, Neupane has now been given the responsibility of connecting his background in communications with the task of building the party organisation. His new role includes expanding the party’s organisational structure, strengthening its grassroots network and effectively mobilising party members and activists.
Neupane spent many years in journalism before becoming actively involved in politics in recent years. His experience in the media has also made him a prominent figure within the party on matters related to communications, public relations and political messaging.
With the new responsibility, however, Neupane’s role will extend beyond media campaigns. He will be tasked with expanding the party organisation at the grassroots level, bringing in new members and activists, activating party structures at different levels and preparing the party organisationally for upcoming political challenges.
The RSP has been stepping up efforts to institutionalise and strengthen its organisational structure. Neupane’s appointment to head the Organisation Department is also being viewed as an attempt to bring forward a leader with experience in both communications and organisational affairs.
The Central Committee meeting also appointed several other party leaders to key positions.
Purushottam Yadav has been appointed joint general secretary, Manohar Pradhan treasurer, Basumaya Tamang joint treasurer and Jagadish Kharel spokesperson. Namita Yadav and Surendra Chaudhary have been appointed joint spokespersons.
Similarly, Bijay Jairu has been appointed head of the Public Service and Public Grievance Department, Dr Toshima Karki head of the Public Health Department, Nisha Danghi head of the Infrastructure Department, Shishir Khanal head of the International and Diplomacy Department, and Lima Adhikari head of the Economics Department.
With the new appointments, the RSP is set to advance its political activities through a more structured and department-based organisational system.
