KIMATHANKA, Nov 3: Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has said the electricity produced from the Arun River of Sankhuwasabha would enable Nepal’s economy.

At a program organized at Manakamana Raatna Ambika Secondary School based in Khandbari Municipality-9, Tumlingtar on Tuesday, Minster Sharma said that the power generated from the Arun River would also help reduce the trade deficit that Nepal has with India. An Indian company is currently developing the Arun III project in Arun River.

On the occasion, Minister Sharma shared that the Nepal government is constructing the Upper Arun, Kimathanka on its own investment so as to strengthen Nepal’s national economy. “The government is making investments in different projects including the Arun hydropower project,” he said.

Minister Sharma made the commitment to spur government investment in Sankhuwasabha as a potential area for resource generation and help reduce the widening trade deficit with both India and China. He further said that efforts are being made to advance the construction of hydropower projects in Arun through a government company.
