RAUTAHAT, Jan 5: A clash between locals and police occurred in Baijnath, Ramnagar-5, Sarlahi, last night, leading to the police firing five rounds of bullets. The confrontation occurred on Saturday at 9 pm, when a group of villagers attacked a police team conducting a breathalyzer test at Baidyanath Chowk on the Hulaki Highway in Ramnagar Rural Municipality-5.
The team, led by Police Inspector Ujjwal Karki, was surrounded by hundreds of villagers who began beating the officers. In self-defense, the police opened fire, according to the District Police Office, Sarlahi.

Traffic Police Constable Shailendra Ray Yadav sustained a head injury during the attack. He was taken to the government hospital in Malangwa for treatment.
The attack occurred after Sarlahi police tightened sobriety checks following the death of Armed Police Inspector Bijay Tuladhar, who was killed after being hit by a drunk driver’s bus last Wednesday. As intoxicated youths fought with the police, nearby villagers joined the attack, prompting the officers to fire five rounds into the air. Sarlahi Police Chief SP Rabindra Bahadur Singh confirmed the details.
