Spokesperson for the DPR, Superintendent of Police (SP) Dinesh Raj Mainali, confirmed to Republica that the duo working at the Kirtipur office of the KVCIO had looted old leather money from an individual in collaboration with a middleman. “They were handed over to the DPR by the KVCIO on Wednesday and we started an investigation into the case on the same day,” he informed Republica.
According to sources at the KVCIO, the duo also provided handcuffs to the middleman to restrain the young man who reached the restaurant with the old leather money after the middleman proposed the procurement of the currency. While the middleman was busy looting the individual, the police duo was standing outside the restaurant as lookouts. Since they were in plain clothes, the duo was recognized as policemen by the person who brought the leather currency.
A police official in the investigating team revealed that the duo had agreed to provide Rs 2.5 million to the middleman for his role in stealing the leather money. Later, they took off with leather money without paying the amount.
The young man who brought the leather money and the middleman are absconding. The DPR has confirmed that they are searching for both of them. SP Mainali told Republica that the information about the robbery has already been passed to the Kathmandu Valley Police Office to expedite the search process for them.
