ASI Sherpa awarded rank insignia after summiting Mount Everest

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deepak Thapa awarded the rank insignia to Kunjang Chopel Sherpa, who successfully summited Mount Everest, during a special promotion ceremony at the Police Headquarters on Sunday. The police promoted Sherpa from Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) to Sub-Inspector of Police (SI) under a special promotion.

KATHMANDU, May 25: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deepak Thapa awarded the rank insignia to Kunjang Chopel Sherpa, who successfully summited Mount Everest, during a special promotion ceremony at the Police Headquarters on Sunday. The police promoted Sherpa from Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) to Sub-Inspector of Police (SI) under a special promotion.


On May 20, the Policy Making Committee (PCC) decided to grant Sherpa a special promotion for successfully summiting Mount Everest and bringing pride to the organization.

During the occasion, IGP Thapa praised Sherpa's indomitable courage in climbing Everest and commended the efforts to enhance the police organization.


SI Sherpa, representing the police organization, successfully summited Everest on Monday, May 19, at 8:56 am. At the summit, she proudly waved the national flag of Nepal, the Nepal Police flag, and a banner bearing the slogan "Let's unite to end violence against women and girls."
