KATHMANDU, March 11: A police constable lost his life while attempting to arrest a runaway prisoner in Darchula.

Constable Sohan Chaudhary lost his life while attempting to arrest Umesh Singh Kunwar of Mahakali Municipality-1. Kunwar had escaped from police custody with handcuffs.

During the operation to arrest Kunwar, constable Chaudhary fell down and sustained a serious head injury. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

The Sudurpaschim Province Police Office confirmed his demise during treatment.

Kunwar had been arrested on the carge of rape on March 4 and was undergoing interrogation in the legal section when he managed to escape while still restrained with handcuffs.

After fleeing across the Mahakali River and reaching India, Kunwar was taken into custody again by the police.
