KATHMANDU, July 21: Police have arrested Maila Lama, a key leader of the Netra Bikram Chand-led Nepal Communist Party (NCP), from Kathmandu.
A team of Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) arrested Lama from Kadaghari last night. Lama is the in-charge of Kathmandu Valley Bureau of the outlawed NCP, who is said to be a member of talks team formed by the party to hold talks with the government.
Chief of MPCD Thapa confirmed that the duo were detained during a search operation. Based on a tip-off, the police had intensified search for the NCP leaders for the past few weeks.
Resham Tamang, a cadre of the NCP, was also arrested by police along with Lama. Lama's arrest comes amid reports that the government is reaching out to the top leaders of the NCP in an attempt to bring the party to mainstream politics.
