The police also arrested three other persons, charging them of running the betting racket via telephone in Nepal and India. Sanjay Agrawal, Mukesh Agrawal and Bijay Tibdewal were other persons arrested in connection with the racket after they offered bribe of Rs 500,000 to the police for release of those arrested, according Dibesh Lohani, superintendent of Parsa Police.
The Parsa District Police Office on Friday made public all the arrested along with the Rs 500,000 offered in bribe, nine mobile phone sets, a television and an antenna.
Meanwhile, businesspersons of Parsa asked police not to take action against three persons who tried to bribe the police claiming that they were innocent.
The police has said that it will file cases of gambling and organized crime against those arrested.
NGA distributes relief goods
KATHMANDU, May 9: Nepal Golf Association (NGA) on Friday distribute tarpaulins and blankets to the victims of the devastating earthquake that claimed lives of more than 7,500 people and injured more than 15,000 across the country. The NGA is planning to buy 1,000 tarpaulins and blankets each through fund collected from its well-wishers.
According to NGA General Secretary Tashi Ghale, the organization has received US$ 4,000 from Aron Bergman, proprietor of Golf in Schools of Texas, United States, and Rs 750,000 from Ghale Brothers. The NGA will bear the cost of insufficient amount for the purchase via its internal resources.
On Friday, the NGA team distributed 252 tarpaulins in Dhungkhark VDC of Kavre district and 200 blankets in Dhukharka Health Post and Mukteshwar Mahadev Elderly Home.
NGA General Secretary Ghale, Treasurer Kishan Agrawal, Nepal no 1 golfer Shiva Ram Shrestha and Deepak Thapa Magar distributed the relief materials.
According to Ghale, the NGA will immediately distribute tarpaulins and blankets in Gorkha, Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Lalitpur districts.
Meanwhile, NGA decided to provide Rs 25,000 to the family of deceased sports journalist Suman Bomjan. Ghale said that the association will provide the amount through Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF).
Rs 100,000 to late Bomjan's family
KATHMANDU, May 9: Gorkhapatra Corporation has decided to provide late sports journalist Suman Bomjan's family with a relief fund of Rs 100,000.
The 30-year old Bomjan, who died during April 25 earthquake in Kathmandu, was a sports journalist for Gorkhapatra since the last four years. A meeting of the management committee took the decision to the effect.
Three Nepalis arrested for online betting on IPL matches
Meanwhile, Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) Makawanpur Coordination Committee on Friday has declared to set up Suman Memorial Sports Journalism Award in the memory of late sports journalist Suman Bomjan.
According to Sabin Neupane, the general secretary of the Coordination Committee, they have decided to reward a journalist each year with Rs 5,000. Bomjan was the founder president of the coordination committee.
US$ 200 each month to quake victim
KATHMANDU, may 9 : Former karate player Ujjwal Singh Thakuri, who has been residing in Washinton DC of USA has decided to donate $ 200 USD every month for a year to the victims of last month's earthquake.
He has decided to donate the amount through Nepal National and International Players' Association, according to Dipak Bista, president of the association.
