PMO urges public to visit fair price shops

KATHMANDU, Sept 22: The Prime Minister´s Office (PMO) on Sunday urged the public to buy commodities from fair price shops to get the benefit of reasonable prices during the upcoming festivals. [break]



The government has claimed that the consumers would receive up to five percent discount on the goods sold at the fair price shops. Issuing a press statement, the PMO Secretary Krishna Hari Banskota assured the quality and price of goods sold at the shops as the office has begun the monitoring fair price shops established temporarily by the government targeting the festivals.



A team led by Krishna Hari Banskota monitored the fair price shops at the National Trading Limited in Singhadurbar and Teku and the Nepal Food Corporation, Thapathali. Likewise, the monitoring team also went to the shops in Jawalakhel and the Agriculture and Vegetable Market in Balkhu.

The team that went to further observe the shop established at the Department of Commerce directed the officials to open the shop during holidays and issue bills for every transaction.



Similarly, the Dairy Development Committee (DDC) has also opened up such shops at its Lainchaur-based office, the statement read. The DDC is selling the dairy products such as milk, yoghurt, ice-cream, cheese and sweet items at a discount of Rs 1 to Rs 10, the statement read. The shops would remain open from 11 am to 6 pm.
