KATHMANDU, April 11: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has claimed that the action taken against Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) was a positive one.
Responding to queries asked by Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa about the NRB governor’s suspension at the meeting of the ruling coalition at Baluwatar on Monday, PM Deuba defended the suspension decision, saying that the steps Finance Minister Janardan Sharma had done the right thing.

Adhikari was appointed as NRB Governor by the then Oli-led government. Suspended Governor Adhikari has been accused of releasing confidential information, causing damage to the banking system, leaking classified information before making policy decisions, and stopping the import of luxury goods. The government has also formed a committee to investigate the charges against him.
The government’s decision to suspend the NRB governor has, however, drawn widespread criticism.
