The government is expected to write to the UN Security Council (UNSC) before May 6, when the UNSC is scheduled to take up Nepal´s peace process.

The current mandate of UNMIN is expiring on May 15.

A minister said that the government would send a request to the UNSC to extend UNMIN´s term by a minimum of three months to a maximum of six months.

Established on January 23, 2007, UNMIN´s term has already been extended five times. The UNSC extended the political mission´s term for the fifth time in January.

The government had then requested the UNSC to extend the term by four months hoping that the peace process would be completed by May 15.
