KATHMANDU, Feb 12:  It has been revealed that a pipe that burst in the Babarmahal area of Kathmandu, causing flooding, is part of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project.

Prakash Kumar Rai, spokesperson for Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Limited, confirmed that the burst pipe belongs to the Melamchi distribution system.

"We have a bulk distribution system (BDS) pipe in that area and it has burst," said Rai. "We have already halted the supply. The flooding will clear up soon."

Spokesperson Rai claimed that the pipe burst because it was weak. "A third party may have damaged the pipe," he said, claiming: "The pipe did not burst due to the project's fault."

This indicates that someone might have caused damage to the drinking water distribution pipe during construction, leading to the burst.

The pipe burst and flooded the area around 2:30 PM on Thursday. The flood affected areas from the road to the forest, the District Court of Kathmandu, and the Special Court premises. The road was blocked for a while, but after halting the water supply, the road has been cleared and is now operational.
