KATHMANDU, August 7: A writ petition filed against tourism entrepreneur Karna Shakya on the charge of constructing a hotel that encroaches on Fewa Lake is still pending at the Supreme Court (SC).
Advocate Khagendra Subedi had registered the writ petition in July 2011. The writ has named the Office of the Prime Minister, Tourism Ministry, Department of Tourism, Department of Industries, Office of Company Registrar and Department of Cottage and Small Industries as defendants.

As construction of buildings nearby the lake obstructs Fewa scenery and discharges from the resort hotel pollute the lake, the write petition has urged the SC not to grant permission for operating Shakya's Park Village Waterfront Resort.
At the time of filing the petition, Shakya's hotel was just starting construction. Locals also had protested the construction.
Meanwhile, Shakya says in his Twitter post that he constructed the hotel after registering the land at Pokhara Municipal Development Committee and other departments concerned. He has also mentioned that the hotel is 65 meters away from the lake. He further asked, “Where is it written that we cannot construct hotels in wetland areas?”
