Paudel appointed Province 3 chief minister

MAKAWANPUR, Feb 12: Parliamentary Party leader of the CPN-UML and the seniormost member of Province 3, Dor Mani Paudel has been appointed the chief minister of the province. 

Governor of Province 3, Anuradha Koirala appointed Paudel at the recommendation of the CPN-UML and the support of CPN (Maoist Center) on Sunday. Secretary at the Province Chief Office, Chaturbhuj Gyawali announced the appointment at a press conference organized in the evening. 

Paudel submitted a letter bearing the signatures of 58 provincial assembly members of the UML and the support letter from the CPN (Maoist Center) parliamentary leader Shalik Ram Jammkattel to Governor Koirala on Sunday afternoon. Governor Koirala appointed Paudel as the chief minister in accordance with Article 168 (1) of the constitution. 

The swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Chief Minister Paudel is scheduled for 9 am, Monday. Paudel was elected the UML parliamentary party leader in the province, defeating his rival Asta Laxmi Shakya on Friday. 

Born 72 years ago in Pharping VDC in Kathmandu district, Paudel is a permanent resident of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-11, Nawalpur. Paudel has earned a Bachelor's degree in Humanities. He started getting involved in politics in the 1970s and has worked in various capacities of the party including the member of UML Makawanpur District Working Committee. 

Although he briefly worked as a government employee, Paudel devoted his life to the teaching profession. He was detained 18 times during the Panchayat system for his involvement in anti-Panchayat politics.
