The temple store is falling short for the huge quantity of coins after Nepal Bank Limited could not exchange them with paper notes.
The office had started collecting the coins from the temple premises located at Fungling, the district headquarters, from 1996. [break]
“The bank couldn´t exchange such huge quantity of coin, and we don´t even have enough space to store them,” said Deputy Secretary of the committee, Laxmi Prasad Kafle. “But we are hopeful that the bank will find a solution to this problem soon.”
However, the bank itself is already struggling to store other offerings like paper notes and jewelries collected from the temple.
Pathibhara temple is visited by numerous of devotees and pilgrims mostly during Dashain and Tihar festival.
Meanwhile, the ongoing shutdown of the Taplejung airport has affected the tourists and locals alike. The airport has remained closed since May 18.
Taplejung is considered as one of the most visited tourist destinations of the country. At this time of year, many foreigners visit Taplejung mostly to climb Mt. Kanchanjunga.
