KATHMANDU, July 11: Political parties are near to an agreement on reconstituting the special committee to supervise, integrate and rehabilitate Maoist combatants under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, a source close to Nepal said. [break]

The eight-member committee will have two representatives each from the CPN-UML, NC, UCPN-Maoist and MPRF.

A recent cabinet meeting had decided to authorize the prime minister to reconstitute the committee, said another source. The committee became defunct after the Maoist-led government stepped down on May 4. Then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal was the head of the committee.

Sources said UCPN-M is likely to send its leaders Ram Bahadur Thapa and Barshaman Pun to the committee. Thapa was a member in the previous committee as well.
