KATHMANDU, Sept 12: The Education, Health, and Information Technology Committee under the House of Representatives (HoR) has directed the Ministry of Youth and Sports to draft a separate law for the development of the sports sector.
In a meeting held on Thursday, the committee instructed the Ministry of Youth and Sports to prepare a draft law specifically focused on the development of the sports sector.
Committee Chairperson Ammar Bahadur Thapa urged the ministry to move forward by immediately enacting the necessary legislation for the development of the sports sector. He emphasized that it is not appropriate to proceed based on individual convenience and self-made procedures.
Thapa further instructed the ministry to bring the draft to the committee if there are any legal issues and stated that the committee would proceed with the fast-tracking of the legislation.

During the meeting, CPN-UML lawmaker Chhabilal Bishwakarma stressed the completion of the 10th National Sports Tournament within the scheduled time.
Bishwakarma suggested that if the event cannot be held on time, a specific timeframe should be set to ensure the smooth continuation of sports activities. He emphasized the need to organize sports activities in appropriate locations based on feasibility.
Speaking at the meeting, CPN (Maoist Centre) lawmaker Rekha Sharma highlighted the increasing significance of the sports sector. She noted that despite limited resources, Nepali athletes have been enhancing the country's development and pride.
Sharma pointed out the issue of insufficient investment in the sports sector and called for increased government funding.
Dr. Toshima Karki, a lawmaker of Rastriya Swatantra Party, also spoke at the meeting, suggesting that the Youth Self-Employment Program should be advanced to include and encourage youth, ensuring that they have employment opportunities within the country.
Dr. Karki questioned how many proposals have been submitted under the Youth Self-Employment Program to date and expressed concerns that proposals submitted by youth who wish to do something within the country are facing delays in approval.
She urged the ministry to list and address the problems of youths.
