Upon his arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport from his trip to the United States, Dahal said the decision to grant amnesty to Dhungel was taken when CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal was prime minister. [break]
"We had discussed the issue and Nepal had agreed to recommend to the president to grant pardon to Dhungel, but Nepal hesitated later. So only the implementation part of the decision was due," said Dahal.
Dahal, who in his capacity as the chairman of the National Steering Committee for the development of Greater Lumbini met UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon in the US, stated that Ban is visiting Nepal in February-end or early March to participate in the international conference on the development of Greater Lumbini.
According to him, he and Ban would jointly chair the international conference in Nepal and also the follow-up meeting in New York.
Dahal also informed that heads of state of all Buddhist countries around the world will be invited to the gathering that, he said, would help project Lumbini as ´World Peace City´.
He also said the gathering would decide who would head the international committee on the development of Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha.
Dahal spent a night in London en route to Kathmandu from New York, and it is yet to be known why went to London.
He was accompanied by Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Minendra Rijal, businessman Manoj Bahadur Shrestha, his son Prakash Dahal and personal secretary Sameer Dahal during his US visit.
