Pappu, Nabil, Kantipur, NIC Asia reach QF

KATHMANDU, Oct 27: Pappu Construction, Nabil Bank, NIC Asia Bank and Kantipur Media Group reached the quarterfinals of Soaltee Crowne Plaza Super Sixes corporate cricket tournament on Sunday.



Pappu Construction defeated Nepal Bank by 14 runs on Sunday at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur to secure berth in the quarterfinals. Pappu Construction put up 70/3 in the allotted five overs as Ram Naresh Yadav scored an unbeaten 31 runs. In reply, Nepal Bank reached only 56/5. Surendra KC (unbeaten 17 runs) was the top scorer for Nepal Bank. [break]



Nabil Bank advanced into the last-eight with a four-wicket win over Global IME Bank. Sharad Pokharel scored an unbeaten 49 runs to guide Global IME to 74/5 in five overs. As per the tournament´s rule, Pokharel retired after scoring more than 31 runs but returned to the crease again after the fall of the fifth wicket. Chasing the target, Nabil Bank reached 76/2 in 3.5 overs with Ameet Pokharel remaining unbeaten on 36 runs to steer his team to victory.



NIC Asia registered a thrilling one-run victory over last edition´s runner-up Century Bank. NIC Asia scored 72 runs in five overs losing three wickets. Sujan Rai topscored with 33 runs. Avay Rana also scored 33 runs in the run chase but could not prevent defeat as Century managed only 71/4.



Likewise, Kantipur beat ICFC by 22 runs to enter the quarterfinals. Kantipur scored 74/1 as Bigyan Pandey scored an unbeaten 32 runs and Shishir Pachhai added 21 runs. In reply, ICFC reached only 52/1.



Meanwhile, defending champion NMB Bank thrashed Standard Chartered Bank by six wickets on Sunday to reach the pre-quarterfinal round as the winner of Group C. Standard Chartered put up 56/4 in five overs as Shekhar Karki scored an unbeaten 24 runs. In reply, Rabindra Chand sealed victory with an unbeaten 36 runs as NMB reached the target in 3.1 overs without losing any wicket.



In other matches on Sunday, Citizen Bank and Indian Embassy recorded five-wicket victories over Soaltee Crowne Plaza and Civil Bank respectively. Eastern Motors also defeated Machhapuchchhre Bank by five wickets.
