KATHMANDU, Nov 26: The Professional Alliance for Peace and Democracy (PAPAD) staged a march protest, demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana on Thursday. The march protest was attended by members of the Nepal Bar Association, the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Nepal Teachers Association, Nepal Engineering Association, Nepal Public Health Association, Nepal Nursing Association, Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities, and senior citizens.

The protesters shouted slogans like ‘stop buying and selling justice’ and 'Investigate the chief justice’s personal assets’ among others. PAPAD has urged the political parties to immediately start the process of impeachment against Chief Justice Rana and to investigate his assets.

The protestors have criticized the political parties for being silent even when the justices have boycotted the court hearings. The Nepal Bar Association has warned of continuing their protests unless the chief justice resigns. Although the justices have refused to hear any of the cases fixed by the chief justice except for the cases related to habeas corpus from October 24, a full-court meeting on Thursday decided to fix the benches of the court through the lottery system.
