Subodh Mandal defeated Janak Tamang to finish first in the boys' U-40 kg category final held at Nayapati, Kathmandu, to secure gold for PAM. Likweise, Indra Bahadur Shrestha also won gold for PAM in the boys' U-60 kg category beating Dinesh Bhdua Magar of host CWCN in the final.Binisha Bhujel (girls' U-32 kg) and Manita Pradhan (girls' U-57 kg) secured the other gold medals for PAM. Binisha beat Sakun Sunuwar of New Horizon in the title clash while Manita saw off Rama Nepali of CWCN.
In other matches of the boy's section, Aash Bahadur Kami (U-30 kg) of OCCID and Sanjog Bhatta (U-50 kg) of CWCN secured gold medals.
In the girls' section, Sunita Thapa Magar (U-40 kg) of Bal Bikash School and Manisha Maharjan (U-48 kg) of CWCN finished first in their respective weight categories.
According to the tournament coordinator Dharma Kumar Shrestha, altogether 115 judokas of Nepal and 11 from Bhutan are competing for 16 gold medals in the two-day event. Both the boys' and girls' events have equal eight gold medals up for grabs.
This is the first time foreign players have been invited to compete in the tournament following its success at the domestic level in the past two editions.
