KATHMANDU, Nov 11: A piece of land which was registered in the name of a businessman and was ‘donated’ to the CPN-UML has been transferred to the name of Bhat-Bhateni SuperMarket and Department Store, just before a hearing at the Supreme Court (SC) on the ongoing dispute over the ‘donation’ of the land to the UML.
Min Bahadur Gurung, the owner of Bhat-Bhateni, took the ownership of the land after about a month of announcing the land donation.
When the land donation was announced, the land was registered in the name of Road Show Real Estate, owned by Kalu Gurung. The land was registered in the name of Bhate-Bhateni a few days ago.

On the day of Dashain’s Fulpati, Gurung had announced a land donation for the construction of the central office of the CPN-UML. According to the announcement, he will construct three buildings himself within a year and hand the land and the buildings over to the UML.
Bhat-Bhateni owner Gurung appears to have transferred the land to his company’s name before the hearing on the issue of the land donation.
The SC issued a short-term interim order on October 28 after a preliminary hearing on a petition filed regarding the donation of land by Bhat-Bhateni owner Gurung to the CPN-UML.
The apex court has summoned both sides for a hearing on Monday to decide whether the interim order will continue or not.
The hearing scheduled for Monday is to be held by the bench of SC justices Dr Nahakul Subedi and Nityananda Pandey. Justice Pandey was appointed only on Sunday after being approved by the parliamentary hearing committee.
