MUGU, Ma 26: More than 13,000 tourists have visited Rara, one of Nepal's major tourist destinations between Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August) and Bhaisakh (mid-April to mid-May) of current Fiscal Year (FY) 2023/24.
According to Mahesh Neupane, the acting conservation officer at the Rara National Park Office, the number of tourists visiting Rara by mid-May has increased compared to the previous year. During this period, 12,761 were domestic tourists, 45 were from SAARC countries, and 208 were from other countries.
Over 15,000 visited Rara Lake in a year
In the last FY 2023/24, a total of 17,297 tourists visited Rara. Since over 13,000 tourists have already visited by Baisakh (mid-April) this year, Neupane estimates that the number will exceed last year’s total by the end of Asar (mid-July).
Similarly, a total of Rs 4.91 million has been collected under various headings. The Rara National Park Office collected this amount by May 19, with Rs 3.127 million coming from tourism fees alone.
The fee structure is set at Rs 1,000 per person for domestic tourists, Rs 1,500 for tourists from SAARC countries, and Rs 3,000 for other foreign nationals.
