KATHMANDU, Nov 5: More than 124,000 tourists entered Nepal by air in October, representing a 6.04 percent increase in tourist arrivals compared to the same month last year.
A total of 124,393 tourists visited Nepal in the month of October. In the same month last year, around 117,306 tourists entered Nepal by air. Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) said that even though the number of tourists has increased compared to last October, the floods and landslides have affected the arrival of tourists.
Mani Raj Lamichhane, the director of the NTB, said that some tourists have postponed their trips to Nepal due to road blockages caused by floods leading to various destinations. He said that this number would have been higher if the roads had not been blocked by floods.
Nepal ranks 124 in corruption perception index
All the roads leading out of Kathmandu were blocked due to the floods and landslides triggered by incessant rains on September 28. Due to this, some tourists canceled their bookings to visit Nepal.
According to the data provided by the NTB, the highest number of 16,313 tourists arrived in Nepal by air from India in October.
This number represents 13.11 percent of the tourists who entered in October. However, the number of Indian tourists has decreased compared to last October. In October last year, around 18,480 Indian tourists visited Nepal.
The US ranks second on the list of countries with the most tourists visiting Nepal. Around 16,023 tourists have visited Nepal from the US. This number is higher than last October. Last year, 14,879 American tourists entered Nepal in October.
According to the NTB, 8,019 tourists have entered Nepal from Britain and 7,750 tourists from China. Australia ranks fifth in terms of the number of tourists visiting Nepal, with 6,929 tourists entering the country. Similarly, 6,018 tourists have visited Nepal from Germany; 5,485 from France; 4,476 from Bangladesh; 3,125 from Sri Lanka and 2,635 from Italy.
This year, around 941,032 tourists have entered Nepal in 10 months. This number is 15.31 percent more than last year’s. In the 10 months of last year, 816,000 tourists visited Nepal.
