Over 100 doctors, health workers infected with COVID-19 in Chitwan

CHITWAN, Jan 18: As many as 117 doctors and health workers of different hospitals in Chitwan district have tested positive for the coronavirus.

The doctors, health workers and hospital staff were infected with the virus within a few days following a surge in the number of coronavirus cases in recent times. 

The virus was confirmed in 37 doctors, health workers and administrative staff of Bharatpur Hospital. It was confirmed in the course of conducting tests till Monday, said Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Prof Dr Krishna Prasad Poudel. 

Of them, seven are doctors, 20 health workers and other administrative staff. Problems have surfaced in providing health services by the hospital as its health workers are getting infected in an increasing number, shared Poudel. 

Similarly, 40 doctors and health workers of BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Information officer of the hospital, Giri Narayan Mahato said that coronavirus infection was confirmed in three doctors, 22 nurses, seven technicians and other administrative staff. Some services at the hospital have been hampered with this but none of the services of the hospital has come to a halt so far. 

Thirty persons working at Chitwan Medical College have tested positive for COVID-19. The hospital's operations manager Paras Adhikari said 12 doctors, 14 nurses and four other staff have been infected. All those testing positive are in self-isolation.

Ten employees at the College of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (Purano Medical College) have been found infected. The hospital said among the infected are seven doctors and three other staff. They are in self-isolation and have normal health. Most of the infected are in self-isolation.

Patients from 19 districts including Chitwan come seeking treatment at the government and private hospitals in the district.
