Addressing concerns about the impact on democratic values, Oli said, “The arrest of a media figure should not be seen as a threat to democracy when high-ranking officials, including ministers and deputy prime ministers, have also faced arrests without jeopardizing democratic processes and the same applies to media figures.”

Oli refrained from commenting on the specifics of the arrest's appropriateness or timing but stressed that it should not be misconstrued as an attack on the rights to free speech or media.
