Oli demands minister Lama's resignation

SINDHUPALCHOWK, April 20: Senior leader of the ruling CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli has demanded immediate resignation of State Minister for Finance Lharkyal Lama.



Oli said there is no alternative for Lama other than to resign as his stay in the government would tarnish the image of the UML party. [break]



Oli arrived in Sindhupalchowk to attend the volleyball tournament organized by Madan Bhandari Youth Sports Academy. “How did he [the prime minister] hand over such a responsible ministry to one who appeared like an incarnation of lord Swayambhu?” he asked. “There must be something serious.”



Oli said it was unfortunate that the prime minister did not hold consultations within the party before appointing Lama as the minister. “We do not know why, how and under whose pressure the prime minister appointed Lama as a minister,” he said. He said that he knew Lama only after he became a lawmaker from the party.



Oli revealed that party leaders had differences over Lama´s nomination as a lawmaker. “We had then said that we better choose those who have contributed to the party for appointment as a minister,” he said.



Oli said the party had not recommended Lama for the post of a minister. “He has been appointed as a state minister now. He might be appointed as a full minister later. Therefore, Lama must tender his resignation,” he further said.
