KATHMANDU, Sept 8: The main opposition party, CPN (Maoist Centre), has demanded the immediate resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, alleging that the government has resorted to excessive force against protesters.



The call came after an informal meeting of senior party leaders in Gorkha, held under the campaign “Maoists with the People: Central Hilly Pushpalal Highway – Awareness Drive.” The leaders concluded that Prime Minister Oli must step down to restore stability and address the escalating unrest.

The party criticised the government’s handling of the Gen Z protests, describing the authorities’ actions as inappropriate and excessive. During the demonstrations, at least 13 protesters have reportedly lost their lives.


Following the meeting, Maoist leaders announced the suspension of the ongoing campaign and said they would return to Kathmandu.
