KATHMANDU, March 25: Office bearers of various 20 active bi-national trade associations of the country on Saturday paid a courtesy call on newly-elected President Ram Chandra Poudel at the latter’s office in Shital Niwas.

The office bearers of the bi-national trade associations also took the opportunity to discuss about the worsening economic situation of the country with President Paudel and the ways to improve it.

On the occasion, President Paudel said that the bi-national trade associations are the conduits of economic diplomacy. While appreciating the efforts being made through the bi-national Chamber of Commerce and Industry in promoting the country's foreign trade and investment and tourism, President Paudel urged them to continue with their efforts.

President Paudel praised the role played by the private sector in filling the gap in economic diplomacy. He said that in countries where Nepal does not have an embassy, the gap seen in economic diplomacy can be filled through the private sector.

The delegation was led by Rajesh Kaji Shrestha, who is the outgoing president of Nepal-China Chamber of Commerce and Industries. On behalf of the 20 bi-national trade association, Shrestha said that they expect President Poudel to guide the government to formulate policies and regulations that are friendly to the private sector.
