KATHMANDU, September 8: The National Muslim Struggle Alliance (NMSA), Kathmandu has expressed its serious concern over “continuous news of genocides, atrocities, and killing” of Muslim people in Myanmar.

NMSA has requested the Embassy of Myanmar, Kathmandu to take action against the ongoing incidents taking place in Myanmar and has urged the Nepal Government to declare its position with regard to the crisis in Myanmar.

The Alliance in a statement issued on Friday has said “This is against humanity, justice, and world peace. According to the human rights declaration, this is not tolerable.” It has urged to stop the killings of Rohingya Muslims and ensure them justice and right of living with dignity. “Protect Rohingya Muslims and provide them fundamental rights,” the organization added.

The persecution of minority Muslims is on the rise across Burma and not confined to the northwestern state of Rakhine, where recent violence has sent nearly 90,000 Muslim Rohingya fleeing. The reports claimed that persecution was backed by the government, elements among the country’s Buddhist monks, and ultra-nationalist civilian groups.

More than 400 people have died in violence in the state that Myanmar’s military said was triggered by attacks on security forces by insurgents from the Rohingya ethnic minority. To escape the violence, Rohingya have massed along the Bangladeshi frontier, barred from entering the south Asian country.

The treatment of Burma's roughly 1.1 million Rohingya is the biggest challenge facing Burma de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who critics say has not done enough to protect the Muslim minority from persecution.
