NSC vice chair Tendi Sherpa nabbed on gold smuggling charge

KATHMANDU, March 29: National Sports Council (NSC) Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Nepal Basketball Association Tendi Lama Sherpa has been nabbed in connection with smuggling gold.

Sherpa, who was nabbed on Saturday from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), has been handed over to TIA-based Customs Office on Sunday.Sherpa was kept at New Baneshwor-based Metropolitan Police Circle on Saturday night.

Police said that Sherpa nabbed with 25 tolas of  illegal gold. Sherpa was held with the gold during the security screening at TIA while he was returning from Hong Kong.

Sherpa is close to ruling CPN-UML.
