Organizing a press meet at its premises, NSC Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama unveiled the logo designed by artist Jeevan Rajopadhyay.[break]
The logo was selected among the ones submitted by 18 artists.
A selection team headed by NSC senior officer Kamal Khanal selected the logo. Rajophadhyay will receive a cash reward of Rs 40,000 from NSC for the logo.
The logo for the sixth national games carries symbols representing nationalism, peace, Olympic colors, athletes, five development regions and Deuda, the famous dance of far-west, chief selector Khanal said.
Asian qualifying taekwondo postponed
Asian Qualifying Tournament of taekwondo for the upcoming London Olympics has been postponed until further notice.
According to Nepal Taekwondo Association (NTA), the tournament was scheduled to be held in Bangkok from November 4 to 6 but the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) was forced to postpone as Thailand is grappling with the worst floods ever to hit the country.
“The WTF will announce new venue and schedule within a few days,” reads a NTA press release issued on Sunday. Four Nepali taekwondo players are competing to secure Olympics berths to represent the country in the mega sporting event.
The 10th South Asian Games (SAG) gold medalist Manita Shahi (women´s-67kg), the 11th SAG gold medalist Ayasha Shakya (women´s-56kg) as well as Ashis Maharjan (men´s-60kg) and Rohit Tamang (men´s-58 kg) are preparing for the tournament.
Surya Nepal Challenge tees-off Monday
Surya Nepal Challenge golf tournament will tee-off at the Tribhuwan Army Officers´ Golf Club from Monday.
The event is the fifth under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2011-12. The 54-hole tournament will be participated by 24 professional and 20 amateur golfers.
The cut will be applied after 36 holes and top 20 professional and top four amateurs will make it to the final 18 holes. Most participants played a practice round on the course on Sunday .
The event carries a total purse of Rs 300,000 and the winner will get a check of Rs 60,000 and runner up will take home Rs 40,000. Others in the top 20 will also receive their share of cash prizes.
This is a new event added to the Surya Nepal Golf Tour. Top ranked player and winner of the last event Shiva Ram Shrestha is eying at adding another title to his belt. Rabi Khadka, Ramesh Adhikari, Deepak Thapa Magar, Sanjay Lama will be the other strong contenders in the tournament.
