NSC proposes attractive incentives

KATHMANDU, April 3: A board meeting of the National Sports Council (NSC) has decided to recommend the government to provide attractive cash incentives to the players, coaches and respective associations of games if they win medals in South Asian Games (SAG), Asian Games and the Olympics.



The meeting of the NSC board on Tuesday under chairmanship of Kamala Rokka, the minister for youth and sports, recommended the government to award as high as Rs 10 million rupees for gold medal winners in the Olympics. [break]Gold medal in Asian Games would fetch individual athletes as high as Rs. 2.5 million and the amount would be Rs. 500,000 for SAG gold medal.



Accordingly, coaches, assistant coach as well as associations will also be awarded for medals in internal sports meet, which is seens as an incentive for players to boost their performance.



Meanwhile, the meeting also proposed Rs 2.5 million for residential arrangements to three of more gold medals winner of official SAG Games, twin medal winner of Asian Games including a gold. Similarly, the same has been proposed if the Olympic medalist announces retirement from the game.



If the proposal in endorsed by the government, taekwondo ace Deepak Bista is likely to be the first person to be get the incentives. Bista has won four consecutive gold medals in SAG.


Statute amendments



Amending the statute of national associations, the meeting decided that NSC employees can only hold post other than the president and general secretary of association. The meeting also made mandatory provision of fielding at least two NSC employees in each association. Similarly, the annual general assembly and election could be called off and postpone following written proposal from the majority of the representatives.



Similarly, the selection of representatives from district and regional level for central level election must be conducted under regional and district sports development committee.


Arrears settlement of National Games



The meeting has decided to submit detail of arrears settlements of the Sixth National Games to Prime Minister´s office, Public Account Committee, Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority and Ministry of Youth and Sports and Ministry following the completion of task.


Players Treatment



The meeting proposed to provide Rs 500,000 each for the medical treatment of international judoka Debu Thapa, assistant director of NSC Training Department Nanda Kumar Rai and former weightlifter Surendra Hamal.



Similarly, it has also requested government to provide Rs 300,000 to Full Contact Karate player Kanchalal Waiba. Waiba was injured during the Sixth National Games. The meeting has also recommended Rs 300,000 for educational provision for infant child of late Rajendra Kumar Basnet who was a senior official of NSC.



A press release issued by NSC had proposed for the Olympic gold, silver and bronze medalist, Rs 10 millionRs 7.5 million and Rs 5 million respectively in individual events. For team events in the same, NSC has suggested Rs 5 million, Rs 3.5 million and Rs 2 million respectively to each player.



Rs 500,000, Rs 300,000 and Rs 100,000 respectively to the gold, silver and bronze medal winners in individual events at SAG . For the team events, each player has been recommended Rs 200,000, Rs 150,000 and Rs 100,000 respectively.



According to press release issued by NSC, the associations have been recommended Rs 500,000, Rs 300,000 and Rs 200,000 respectively for claiming top three honors in the SAG. For the same achievement, coach and assistant coach have been recommended rewards of Rs 300,000 and Rs 150,000, Rs 200,000 and Rs 100,000 and Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively. Same amount have suggested for associations, coaches and assistant coaches for achievement in official games of international tournament.



Similarly, NSC has proposed to award Rs 2.5 million, Rs 1.5 million and Rs 1 million to gold, silver and bronze medals winner of the Asian Games in individual events while each player of team event has been proposed Rs 1 million, Rs 500,000 and Rs 300,000 for same achievements.



Respective associations have been suggested prize of Rs 1 million, Rs 600,000 and Rs 400,000 respectively for top three places in the Asian Games. Similarly, coaches and assistant coaches have been proposed Rs 500,000 and Rs 250,000, Rs 300,000 and Rs 150,000 and Rs 200,000 and Rs 100,000 respectively for top three places.



The associations have been proposed Rs 1.5 million, Rs 1.2 million and Rs 900,000 respectively for claiming top three places in the Olympic. The proposed amount for coaches and assistant coaches is Rs 1 million and Rs 500,000, Rs 600,000 and Rs 300,000 and Rs 450,000 and Rs 225,000 respectively.
