KATHMANDU, Feb.23: The Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) has been making preparations for the free distribution of blood collected from volunteers.

Preparations for free distribution of blood have reached the final phase, it is learnt. The government has given the responsibility of collecting and supplying blood to the NRCS since 2023 BS. Currently, the society charges Rs. 675 per pint blood.[break]

According to director of central blood transfusion service center Dr Manita Rajkarnikar, the Ministry of Health and Population has been positive towards allocating budget to that end.

The center would be able to distribute blood collected from donors free of cost if the government provides blood bag cost and blood test charge, she said.
