NPGA President's Cup tees off Monday

KATHMANDU, Feb 12: NPGA President´s Cup golf tournament is all set to tee off on Monday at the Royal Nepal Golf Club, Kathmandu.



The 10th event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2011-12 will be played over 54 holes and is sponsored by the Nepal Professional Golfers´ Association President Rabindra Man Shrestha.[break]



NPGA issuing a press release on Sunday informed that the tournament will feature 24 professional and 21 amateur golfers. NPGA has claimed that the playing conditions of the oldest golf course in Nepal have been tweaked up for the tournament.



According to NPGA, the event carries a purse of Rs 200,000 and the winner will get Rs 44,000.



Winner of the last four tour tournaments and defending champion Shivaram Shrestha along with Rabi Khadka, Ramesh Adhikari, Deepak Thapa Magar, Umesh Nagarkoti will go head to head over 3 days of the championship.



Top amateur Tashi Tshiring, Charlie Gurung, Wangchen Dhondup along with 4 young players from Surya Nepal NGA Youth Development Program will contest for the amateur trophy.



After 36 holes, 18 professionals and ties will make the cut for the final round. Top 6 amateurs will also make the cut for the final 18 holes.



NPGA President Shrestha said that Nepali golfers are in need of continuous platform to play more competitive golf. "I hope this tournament will help golfers and I hope that more sponsors will support professional golf for its sustainable development,” said Shrestha.
