The decision was taken in view of the rising risk of COVID-19 infection due to the litters produced at public places inside the Kathmandu Valley including Khula Manch, reads an agreement reached between Kathmandu Metropolitan City Office and the representatives from the organizations offering free meals to the general public.

Various organizations have been offering free meals to the people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic following the enforcement of a nationwide lockdown in the country.

KMC and the representatives from eight different organizations including 100 Group, Hamro Team Nepal and Hamro Sano Prayas on Friday reached a written agreement to halt the distribution of meals from the next day of Bhai Tika, a major day of the festival of Tihar.

However, safe and closed structures will be explored in order to distribute food to the poor and helpless from November 17 onwards, the agreement reads.
