KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Laxmi Bahadur Nirala has been appointed as member of the Judicial Council (JC).
President Bidya Bhandari appointed Nirala to the position Tuesday on the recommendation of the government, Office of the President informed.
Judicial Council member Nirala succumbs to coronavirus
The council is responsible for selecting and proposing judges for the courts and also disciplining judges involved in wrongdoings.
The government had recommended Nirala, who served as attorney general during King Gyanendra's direct rule, as a member of the Judicial Council.
Shortly after the recommendation, the Parliamentary Hearings Committee had endorsed his name paving the way for his appointment.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had nominated him for the post.
