KATHMANDU, June 17: A five-point agreement has been reached between the government and Sonali Kumari Singh (Niharika Rajput) of Jaleswar Municipality-9 of Mahottari, who has been on a hunger strike in Kathmandu since June 10 demanding justice.
On the initiative of National Women’s Commission member Krishna Poudel Khatiwada, Niharika broke her fast last night by drinking juice from the hand of Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand after the agreement.
It has been agreed to take legal initiatives for DNA testing of Defendant Shivaram Shrestha and Niharika's son. Similarly, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens will take initiatives for safe housing of Niharika and her son, and the Ministry of Home Affairs will provide financial assistance to protesters.
The MoU has been signed by Home Ministry Joint Secretary Shivaram Pokhrel, Deputy Secretary Basanta Bhattarai, Niharika and others.
