KATHMANDU, Sept 24: Nepal Rastra Bank put a newly designed Rs 1,000 banknote into circulation on Thursday (today).
In a notice, the central bank’s Currency Management Department said the “Series 2025” note retains the size of the existing banknote but has a new colour scheme, with pale green inside a purple border.

The front features an image of Mount Everest and watermarks of a rhododendron and the number “1000”. A raised Roman letter “M” and horizontal lines help people with visual impairments identify the note by touch.
The note also has an image of the goddess Bhagwati that appears gold when viewed straight on and green when tilted. Its moving security thread appears red when viewed straight on and green when tilted. It bears the signature of Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Prof Dr Bishwanath Poudel.
The back depicts Ram and Laxman, rare twin elephants born to an elephant named Devkali at the government elephant breeding centre in Chitwan. It also shows seven rhododendrons representing Nepal’s seven provinces and a historic pillar at Lhonchok in Hanumandhoka, the central bank said.
