KATHMANDU, April 15: The Currency Management Department at Nepal Rastra Bank, has announced that new banknotes of Rs 5 denomination will be brought into circulation from Tuesday.
According to a notice issued on Tuesday, the new notes will retain the same size and color as the previous ones. These new notes will feature the signature of the outgoing Governor, Maha Prasad Adhikari.

On the front side of the note, an image of Mount Everest will appear on the left, while a watermark of the Rhododendron will be on its right part.
Similarly, the new Rs 5 banknotes will bear the signature of the outgoing Governor, Maha Prasad Adhikari and at the bottom border of the note, the serial number will include the Nepali year ‘2081 BS’ written in Nepali script.
In the center of the note, there will be an image of a wild yak and the mountain range of the Limi region in Humla district.
Previously, NRB had announced on November 25, 2020 that Rs 5 banknotes with serial numbers ranging from 000001 to 999999 would be brought into circulation. However, it has now clarified that only the notes with serial numbers from No.P 000001 to 560000 will be circulated starting Tuesday.
