A meeting of senior revenue officials, chief district officers and police chiefs of central development region chaired by Revenue Secretary Krishna Hari Baskota formulated the strategy.[break]
In a press statement issued Sunday, Ministry of Finance said regular meeting of Revenue Leakage Control Committee headed by chief district officers of the concerned districts and increasing surveillance along the border points to check smuggling of goods on the eve of Dashain, Tihar and Chhath festivals, are included in the new strategy.
Similarly, imparting necessary training to police personnel deputed at customs, formulating training guidelines, strengthening coordinated patrol along highways and establishing effective communication networks among government agencies, are the other provisions incorporated in the strategy.
The meeting also decided to maintain database of customs invoices in the computers of revenue investigation units before forwarding them to concerned customs offices. It also decided to keep border security patrol office and small customs at the same place.
Expanding the distribution of Permanent Account Number (PAN) in emerging small towns, arrangement of necessary view towers and taking initiative to control revenue leakage at regional level are the other provisions incorporated in the strategy.
It also envisages awarding employees or offices, local administration and police personnel doing exemplary jobs in curbing revenue leakage.
