'New secretaries in peace panels'

SINDHULI, Aug 31: Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Rakam Chemjong has indicated that there would be major changes among the secretaries in the district-level peace committees. He said although the secretaries were supposed to be reinstated within 15 days, a majority of them would now be replaced with a new lot.



“We are working to give term extension and send the secretaries to the districts,” Chemjong said, adding, “But those who are useless will be removed and new ones will be appointed.”



The terms of the secretaries appointed for three months by then Maoist-led government expired one-and-a-half months ago. So far, peace committees have been set up in 61 districts.
