The central bank has already issued banknotes to commercial banks and financial institutions in different districts for distribution to the public. NRB will circulate fresh notes worth Rs 30 billion in the market during Dashain.[break]
According to officials of NRB, banks and financial institutions will get new notes worth Rs 500,000 to Rs 100 million depending on the size of their transactions.
“We have already sent new notes to different districts. We will also open additional counters for exchanging notes," Bhaskar Mani Gyawali, NRB spokesperson, told Republica.
Gyawali said commercial banks will get new notes worth Rs 100 million each while development banks and finance companies will get bank notes depending on the size of their transactions.
"The central bank will distribute new notes through its regional offices in Biratnagar, Janakpur, Pokhara, Bhairawa, Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj, and it´s banking office at Thapathali," he added.
New notes of Rs 5, Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50 and Rs 100 denominations are being circulated in the market.
Last year, NRB had distributed new notes worth Rs 25 billion during Dashain. According to NRB, notes worth Rs 217.73 billion are in circulation in the market. Bank notes worth Rs 188 billion were in circulation in the market on the eve of Dashain festival last year.
