Nepali team off for Subroto Cup

KATHMANDU, Nov 13: Nepali U-14 Football left for Delhi, India on Saturday to participate in the 51st Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament, which kicked off from last Wednesday.



Nepali team is participating in the tournament in the name of Takshyashila Academy, Bishalnagar. [break]



All Nepal Football Association Vice-presidents Mahesh Bista and Lalit Krishna Shrestha bade farewell to the team led by Heman Gurung. Darshan Bhakta Raj is the coach for the team.



The Nepali side will take on a Manipur team in their first match on Tuesday.



FM Hamal faces defeat



FIDE Master Manish Hamal faced defeat in the third round of the First Yala Cup Rating Chess Tournament on Saturday.



Shyam Sundar Shrestha put up a good play to beat Hamal in the 43rd move in the second day of the tournament held at Sajha Party Palace, Lalitpur.



Hari Chandra Chaulagain, Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, Krishna Thapa and Himal Lama are jointly leading the tournament with three points each after the completion of the third round.



Likewise, Enol Luka of Romania, Shyam Sundar Shrestha and Sajin Maharjan are trailing behind on the second spot with 2.5 points each. The players with two points are Madan Krishna Kayastha, Bikash Kuluju, Bivek Lama, Suraj Lohani, Sanjay Maharjan and Rabindra Shakya.  



Shrestha wins Sincere Citizens Rally



Shiva Shrestha won the title of the Second Sincere Citizens Corporate Motor Rally. Shrestha bagged Rs 41,000 after winning the title in the rally organized by the Corporate Riders Group of Nepal Automobile Sports Association (NASA).



Roshan Shrestha completed the rally in the second position while Upendra Pyakurel stood third. Roshan grabbed Rs 21,000 while Pyakurel collected a check of Rs 11,000.



Likewise, Robin Sharma was adjudged the best driver during the rally while Kabin Shrestha won the award for the dedicated driver. Nima Bantawa was adjudged the safe driver in the rally, where Purushottam Shrestha was awarded the best veteran driver.



Altogether 41 motorists took part in the rally that started from Kathmandu valley and ended in Sauraha, Chitwan.



Manandhar scores hat-trick for Informatics



A hat-trick from Sanjeev Manandhar helped Informatics ´A´ secure a 3-0 victory over Nepal College of Management during the fourth day of the Toyota Football Frenzy 2010 inter-college five-a-side football tournament on Saturday.



In other matches of the day, WLC College, Little Angels´ College of Management (LACM) ´A´ and ´B´, Informatics ´B´ and Ace Institute of Management emerged victorious.



WLC defeated IST College 2-1. Suraj Shah scored the first goal for WLC. Mahesh RC leveled the match but Ricky Gurung added another goal for WLC to seal the win.

 

A lone goal from Shashank Shrestha was enough for LACM ´A´ to beat South Asian Institute of Management, while LACM ´B´ also defeated Campion by the same scoreline. Utsav Shrestha scored for the winners.

 

Sanjog Shah and Kiri Shakya scored a goal each for Informatics ´B´ as they defeated Asian College Of Management 2-0.

 

Bishesh Lama scored the winner for Ace in their 1-0 victory over Nepal College of Information Technology.



The match between College of Business Management (CBM) and Ace Higher Secondary (AHS) School ended in a 2-2 draw. Samyam Chitrakar scored a brace for AHS while Lokesh Regmi and Rajkumar Chaulagain scored for CBM.



Meanwhile, the hosts Kathmandu College of Management held Names College to a goalless draw.



Dipika Pallikal claims squash title



Dipika Pallikal of India clinched the title of Women´s International Squash Players Association (WISPA) Professional Championship defeating Kylie Lindsay of New Zealand at the Squash Academy Sports Complex, Saatdobato on Saturday. Pallikal who was in splendid form from the beginning of the championship couldn´t start well in the first set of the finals. Lindsay took a 1-0 lead scoring 10-12 in the first set. Pallikal recovered from a set down to beat Lindsay 11-2, 11-1 and 11-5 in the remaining sets in 30 minutes.



“I couldn´t start well in the first set but got lucky in the second and third sets which improved my performance,” said Pallikal who is also representing India in the 16th Asian Games, Guangzhou, China. “The mistakes of Lindsay also contributed to my victory,” she added.



After the defeat Lindsay said, “I started well which was an advantage but I couldn´t carry that momentum in the later sets. I made lots of mistakes which frustrated me and then I failed to earn points which I could have earned. She (Pallikal) took the advantage,”



The winner and participants received certificates and cash prizes from National Sports Council acting Member Secretary Gita Shrestha amidst a function at the Rum Doodle Restaurant, Thamel. Pallikal bagged Rs 145,000 cash prize while Lindsay received Rs 105,000.



The championship was organized by Nepal Squash and Racquets Association under the sponsorship of WISPA. Eight players from six nations, including three Nepalis, participated in the championship.
