'Sarjamin' is directed by Prabin Khatiwada from Mandala Theater. The 11-member team from Mandala Theater included actors Somnath Khanal, Bijay Baral, Buddhi Tamang, and Umesh Tamang. The story is based on Pushkar Shamser's popular story 'Paribanda' about how an innocent man is believed to be a criminal. It tells the story of two neighbors who are involved in an altercation. When one is killed, people assume it's the other man who committed the crime. The festival has been organized on the occasion of the silver jubilee of Nandimukh Theater. Theater Chairman Abhijit Sengupta expressed his amazement at completing 25 years even at the face of crisis.
"Everyone knows it's very difficult to stick to theater in Bangladesh for long. Yet, we have managed to complete 25 years. Now we feel stronger than ever," he said.
Ataur Rahman, considered the leader of the theater revolution in Bangladesh, also stated that theater artistes still need encouragement to continue working hard.
The nine-day festival will be showing nine plays from Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Norway. Of the nine plays, four are from India, three from Bangladesh and one each from Nepal and Norway.
Actor Somnath Khanal said that it is due to the positive impression that earlier Nepali plays left on Bangladesh theater scene that Nepal has once again been invited to an international festival. "We're preparing to leave a similar impression this time again with our play."
'Sarjamin' will be staged four more times in Jessore, Rajshahi and Rangpur. The festival will conclude on December 5.
